The Jericho Lip Expander is made of stainless steel—featuring a measurement scale for even greater control during training and a tapered mouthpiece that allows your lip muscles to grip more effectively. The lip expander helps wind instrument players build targeted muscle strength and achieve optimal muscle coordination—for improved control, endurance, confidence, and pitch.
Here’s how to use the lip expander effectively:
Firmly wrap your lips around the lip section of the lip expander. Then, using two fingers, gently pull the entire device away from your body. At the same time, try to hold the lip section in place with your lips, resisting the force of the lip expander.
Now pull the lip section of the lip expander away from your body until your lips are fully tensed. Hold this position for 1–2 seconds and slowly return the lip expander to the starting position, following the spring’s resistance. Now count slowly to 3 and start again. Repeat the entire sequence 5–7 times. Then take a 90-second break. This exercise interval is called a set. Then start again. In total, you’ll do 4 sets, each consisting of the 5–7 repetitions described above, with a 90-second break between each set.
If you start this way, you can hardly go wrong. It’s a mistake if you experience extreme muscle soreness. Therefore, only do this exercise every other day—this gives your muscles time to recover, as is often recommended in bodybuilding. Training more frequently tends to have the opposite effect.
