Grenadilla is one of the heaviest and hardest woods. The resulting rough surface structure is probably responsible for the particularly warm and overtone-rich sound of this mouthplate.
The roughness of the material surface is an essential factor influencing the turbulence of the air in the mouth hole. The grenadilla mouth plate makes it possible to produce a sound that is perceived as warm due to its wealth of overtones by blowing it gently.
The grenadilla wood mouth plate can also counteract undesirable developments in the approach - such as a too narrow lip gap in beginners (the so-called pressing). It requires playing with an open and wide mouth position and thus favors a looser approach.
