Markl Markus (trumpeter and flugelhorn player with big band Yabadabadoo, Musikverein Lannach, Musikverein Feldkirchen)
I tested the flugelhorns Arnolds & Sons AFH-655 in gold brass and silver and was thrilled. Although you notice the relatively inexpensive workmanship of the instruments, as soon as you play with them, the initial skepticism subsides. The intonation of the instruments is excellent. The sound is of course brighter and more radiant with the silver flugelhorn, which is particularly suitable for modern literature. The gold brass instrument, on the other hand, sounds very soft, is comparable to rotary valve instruments and can therefore be played in all areas of application. The response is excellent with both instruments.
In the end I decided on the gold brass instrument because I need an all-round instrument for brass music and big band.
Summa Summarum: Two flugelhorns with an insane price-performance Ratio.
